Slimfast ?

Question:

Slimfast
Hey all:wave: , I'm new here although I've been lurking for a lil while!

To cut a long story short for now, over the summer I took up running and started following a more restricting healthy diet. I've always liked my fruit and veg(lifelong vegetarian), but also a big fan of cheese! The result of this was I lost 2 stone, the first 7lbs actually came off within a week, but because I hurt my ankle after the first week of running I didn't immeditaely weigh myself, thinking I couldn't possibly have lost any weight. So that all came as a wonderful suprise :) After that I started losing weight at a more consistent rate, 2 lbs a week ish and I found it easy because I don't get half as hungry during summer!
I was initially 12 stone (I'm 5ft4 and I'm 16), and I'm still at 10stone now, and stable there. I'm finding it hard now to lose any weight so after a few more attempts I've actually started Slimfast. Something I never thought I'd do!
A day goes like this
Breakfast-1piece of fruit and Slimfast Strawberry Milkshake
Mid morning snack-banana
Lunch- Slimfast Choc meal bar
Snack-fruit
Dinner-A few different boiled veg and something more substantial such as nut cutlet things or some pasta.
I nearly always drink about 2litres of water and thats all, sometimes more though.
I'm going to the gym every other day, but sometimes sneak in extra visits so atm it's more like everyday!(Christmas hols and lots of spare time:lol: ) Here's my current routine:

20 mins treadmill-working up from 5mph-10.
15 minutes rowing machine, highest setting on the side.
30 minutes treadmill going at 8-10mph.
10 minutes cross trainer (It's all I can take!)

I've been doing the actual Slimfast for 2 days now. I'm actually resisting the urge to weigh myself everyday now and trying to do it every 2 weeks.
My goal weight is 8stone. But I'd like to go to 9 first, then maintain for a while most likely, then lose some more. This way I can decide exactly how much I want to lose as I get closer and it doesn't seem so daunting!

Really I just wanted to write this as I find it helps me, motivation and generally! I wouldn't mind hearing from other people who have used Slimfast. I'm really trying it more to see if I can get a good jump start on this dieting thing again as I know it's not the healthiest diet! I'm finding it so hard with this cold weather though, this way I still get a lil bit of choccy without going overboard:( Any comments/thoughts, all appreciated :)
xxxxx

I just realised how much I've written, sorry for babbling!:D

slim fast = not good!
Good short term if you want to loose muscle and fat and make your metabolism slow right down and cling onto every calorie it gets and store as fat! Then guess what? with your new slower metabolism and less muscle when you start to eat 'normally' again you put more weight on that you had to start with.
I havent advised on a veggie diet in a long time but i'll have a look and post later. If you train as hard as you plan to do/are doing you need to feed the body what it needs not starve it.
Also why are a you doing all that cardio training? are you training for a race or event?

Thanks for replying, I appreciate your honesty about SF too. I am aware of the things that can happen with diets such as Slimfast (Why I've never tried it before), especially gaining the weight back again. I'm not planning on using it for a long amount fo time, just so I can lose about half a stone, then gradually come off it and go back to a more sensible eating plan.
I do lots of cardio just because I like it, and setting new targets etc, I find it more fun like that.
As far as being vegetarian goes, it's one food habit I'll never change. As I've never been brought up to eat meat it looks revolting to me! If that's what you meant anyway :)

No, i meant 'normally' as in back to normal levels/calories. Cutting back to very low levels damages metabolism and 'forces' the body to store fat. If you are aware of what can happen on SF why are you still going to do it?
When you come back off it you do so with a much slower metabolism thats why people gain more weight than they started with. Why dont you just start eating sensibly now?
In fact Ive just realised.....i posted an example earlier, as prmoised and its not here.......looks like im going to have to type it all again!!

Answer:

sample veggie day - will be around 1800 - 2000 cals, depending on portion sizes of course!
B - 1 small/medium bowl of muesli with Skimmed milk + glass of OJ
Mid Morning snack - 2 apples and 1 low fat yoghurt
L - 1 small/medium jacket spud, 100g of cottage cheese, maybe a spread of olive oil based spread (olivio, or bertoli as it is now) loads of salad, add small vinegar/oil dressing
2 kiwi's - plenty of these around at the mo!
Mid afters snack - 1 orange or 2 satsumas with yougurt
D - rice/bean stir fry/ OR veggie or bean burger with 2 sweet potato with salad OR whatever else you eat??
evening snack (not more than 2 hours before bed though)
Apple or pear or other fruit, maybe small bowl of muesli/2 weetabix or slice of wholegrain toast with bertoli and small handful of grapes or a scrape of peanut butter.
Aim for around 1800 - 2000 cals a day, keep drinknig the water, include a weight routine 2- 3 times a week to help tone up and not just become a saggy/wobbly thin person
Take body measurements too, weight is not a good indicator of being in good shape.
Measure right bicep at largest
Chest at nipple line
waist at belly button
hips at hip bone level
right thigh at largest part
right calf at largest part
record in a notebook with date and re do after at least 2 weeks. You may not loose weight but you might loose inches therefore making you 'look' slimmer and your jeans will be falling down! you will actually be physically smaller coz muscle takes up less room than fat
